Description

A Family Tam
by Beth Brown-Reinsel

The tam is made from four colors of yarn, but never more than two in a round, as is customary in traditional Fair Isle knitting. It is comprised of ribbing, a border pattern area, and the wheel area in which the top part of the tam is created. Intermediate. Sport Weight Yarn

Featured Techniques:
Double Cast-On, Tubular Ribbing, Working with a yarn in each hand, Traditional border and tam wheel patterns, The center double decrease, I-cord finish.

Some good choices would be Mountain Meadow Sport, Gems Merino Sport Weight, and Soft Sea Wool.  Or go whole hog with Supreme Possum Merino 4ply or our 4ply Cashmere. You'll love this set for yourself, or makes a wonderful and impressive gift.

Beth Brown Reinsel is an expert on Scandanavian and other traditional knitting techniques.  All of her patterns include not only clear instructions but also charts, schematics, glossary and bibliography.  Every pattern also contains mini technique lessons.
