Knitting Counterpanes:
Traditional Coverlet Patterns for Contemporary Knitters, New Expanded Edition
by Mary Walker Phillips

Mary Walker Phillips nearly single-handedly brought 19th-century counterpanes, or bedspreads, to the attention of modern knitters, when this book was first published about 30 years ago.

This new edition is a reprint by Dover of the first edition, but expanded with dozens of brand-new charts. This revised edition features 46 counterpane patterns as well as 32 lace edgings and borders that Phillips discovered in museums, private collections, and magazines. Close-up photos are provided for each pattern, and most are charted in addition to having row-by-row instructions.

"A terrific book." Knitter's Magazine. What we say is if you are interested in learning to decipher knitting patterns and seeing how shapes are made, this book will be an immense help.
