The Danish Nattrøjer
by Beth Brown Reinsel

A spectacular pattern for a traditional Danish pullover.
The
Nattrøjer were a part of everyday wear for Danish women in the 1800's.  This cropped pullover was used as an undergarment, but you won't want to cover up the lovely traditional patterning and details.
This sport weight to fingering weight garment is worked from the bottom edge to the underarm in one piece.  The body is split at the armholes.
Written for four sizes, in three gauges so you can choose most any yarn in a sport or fingering weight.  Finished chest measurements vary from 31" to 62.5", depending on size and gauge. Takes about 1475 (1725, 1975, 2225) yards of a fingering or sport weight yarn.  Ideas for yarns include Wendy Traditional Guernsey, Soft Sea Wool, Supreme Possum Merino 4ply ,
Gems Fingering, just about any sock yarn, or of course 2ply cashmere.   Watch out for variegated yarns though--you don't want to obscure the knitted patterning.  Jojoland Melody would do well because the color change is so gradual.

Beth Brown Reinsel is an expert on Scandanavian and other traditional knitting techniques.  All of her patterns include not only clear instructions but also charts, schematics, glossary and bibliography.  Every pattern also contains mini technique lessons.
