Alpaca Ligera, 100% Baby Alpaca
from HiKoo
Wow, what a find! This yarn checks all the boxes-- completely natural fiber; no bleach, dyes, fillers or stabilizer fibers; a gorgeous fluffy spin for maximum snuggliness; great yardage per ball and a quick knit; and direct from Peru, a favored trading partner of the US with no tariffs. HiKoo has outdone itself here with this tremendously soft and cuddly baby alpaca yarn at a value price.
Baby Alpaca fiber has a diameter of 22.5 microns, which is equivalent to the upper limit of cashmere. So, so soft, and the light brushing on this yarn gives it enough volume to be knit quickly.
- 50 gr skeins
- about 120 yards per skein
- 10-12 st = 4" and 16-20 Rows on US 7-8 (4.5-5 mm) needles for plain stockinette
- Hand wash, lay flat to dry, or dry clean
About 825 yards for a plain stockinette sweater of 40" finished bust, or 7 skeins. What a bargain!
My advice for your pattern is, as always, to choose a garment pattern that will use the characteristics of the yarn to best effect. For myself, I am wanting to make a snuggly, somewhat slouchy pullover for the winter in half fisherman's rib(yes, even in Northern Arizona, we keep our thermostat set below 70). This yarn will not show stitch patterning but would be good for plain garter, stockinette and rib. Good for simple color patterning: stripes, color blocks and large uncomplicated motifs.
